Superintendent Grant McMahan takes safety on the road. |
What would you do if you were in the following situation? You are on your way to work, it is dark and you drive up on a road construction project. The crew is working at night in a busy intersection and you cans barely see them in the road. They also have no:
-light plants
-reflective vests
-cones, barrels or barricades
-crash truck
-warning or closure signs installed
Do you shake your head in disbelief noting that you (or Blythe!) would never run an operation like that? Do you make a phone call to the project owner or OSHA the next day to report the outrageous safety violations? Grant could have done these things, but he didn't. He saw the situation was too dangerous to act on later. So even though it was not a BCI project, Grant stopped to lend assistance. He spoke to the foreman and encouraged him to do the right thing and correct his deficiencies, which he did.
In an effort to recognize Grant for his dedication to safety, he was honored with Blythe's first President's Award. This award is used to identify and recognize the special accomplishments of employees.
